Managed IT Services in Plymouth, MA
Power Up Boston provides managed IT services for small and mid-sized businesses in Plymouth and across the South Shore: monitoring, helpdesk, patching, backups, and on-site support from a local team, for a predictable monthly fee. If you are tired of calling someone only after something breaks, this is the alternative.
We have been doing this from our office at 24 Samoset St in Plymouth since 2009. When you call (508) 617-1310, a technician who knows your network answers, not a ticket queue in another state.

Who this is for
Most of the businesses that hire us for managed IT have between five and seventy-five employees and no full-time IT person. They tend to arrive with one of these problems:
- ●The computer guy who set everything up is hard to reach, and nobody knows the passwords, the licenses, or how the backups work.
- ●Staff lose an hour here and there every day to slow machines, printers that drop off the network, and email that stops syncing.
- ●The owner is the helpdesk. Every login issue, every new hire, every software update lands on the person who should be running the business.
- ●The cyber-insurance renewal asks about MFA, endpoint protection, patching, and backups, and nobody is sure what the honest answer is.
- ●The office is moving, growing, or adding a second location and the network needs to be planned instead of improvised.
- ●A vendor (phone system, practice-management software, point of sale) keeps blaming the network, and there is no one on your side to sort it out.
What's included in our managed IT plans
Every plan is scoped to the business, but the core of the service is the same for a three-person law office and a forty-person contractor. Here is what we actually do month to month:
✓Monitoring and alerting on every managed device
Our management agent runs on each workstation and server and reports disk health, failed backups, missing patches, offline status, and security events. We see the failing drive before it fails and the server that rebooted at 3 AM before anyone walks in.
✓Unlimited remote helpdesk
Your staff call, email, or open a ticket from the tray icon. We connect remotely, fix the issue, and document what changed. Password resets, Outlook problems, printer setup, software installs, and the 'my screen looks weird' calls are all covered, without a per-incident bill.
✓Patch management for Windows, macOS, and common applications
Operating-system updates and third-party updates (browsers, Adobe, Java, Zoom, and the rest) are tested, scheduled, and deployed outside working hours. Machines that fall behind are flagged and fixed.
✓Server and network management
Windows Server, file shares, Active Directory or Entra ID, firewalls, switches, and Wi-Fi are configured, documented, and maintained by us. We keep firmware current and configuration backed up so a failed firewall is a swap, not a rebuild.
✓Endpoint protection and email security baseline
Managed antivirus/EDR on every device, MFA on email, and spam and phishing filtering are part of the standard plan, not an upsell. Deeper security work lives under our cybersecurity service, and we will tell you plainly when you need it.
✓Backup monitoring
We verify that backups of servers and Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace data actually complete, and we test restores on a schedule. A backup nobody has restored from is a hope, not a plan.
✓Onboarding and offboarding
New hire starts Monday? We build the account, set up the laptop, configure email and MFA, and map the shared drives before they arrive. When someone leaves, access is revoked the same day and their mailbox and files are preserved.
✓Vendor management and procurement
We deal with your internet provider, phone vendor, software support lines, and hardware suppliers so you don't sit on hold. We quote hardware at clear, itemized pricing and only recommend what the business actually needs.
✓On-site visits when remote isn't enough
Some things need hands: a dead switch, a new workstation, cabling to a new desk. Because we are in Plymouth, on-site work across the South Shore is a drive, not a scheduling event.
✓Documentation and periodic reviews
We keep an up-to-date inventory, network map, credential vault, and licensing record for your business, and we sit down with you periodically to review what broke, what is aging out, and what to budget for.

How it works
Onboarding a managed IT client follows the same steps every time, so you always know what happens next.
- 1
A short call
Fifteen minutes to understand how many people and devices you have, what you run (Microsoft 365, a line-of-business app, a server, a practice-management system), and what has been going wrong.
- 2
Free on-site assessment
A technician visits, inventories your equipment, checks the network closet, reviews backups and security settings, and notes the immediate risks. You get the findings in plain English whether or not you hire us.
- 3
A clear scope and monthly price
The proposal lists exactly which devices, users, and systems are covered and what is out of scope. Pricing is based on that count, so it is predictable and it changes only when your business does.
- 4
Onboarding
We deploy the management agent, fix the risks found during the assessment, standardize security settings, document everything, and introduce ourselves to your staff so they know who to call.
- 5
Ongoing support and review
From then on it is monitoring, helpdesk, patching, and the periodic review. You get a single number to call and a team that already knows your setup.
Why a local Plymouth IT team
Power Up Boston has been based at 24 Samoset St in Plymouth, MA since 2009. In 17+ years we have worked with 1,622+ businesses across 68 communities on the South Shore, Cape Cod, and Greater Boston, and we hold a 4.9/5 rating from 112 Google reviews (as of June 2026). Call (508) 617-1310 and a person picks up.
National MSPs and remote-only providers can be fine until something needs hands or judgment. We are based on Samoset St, so a technician can be at a business in Plymouth, Kingston, Duxbury, or Marshfield the same day for the things that cannot be fixed remotely, and we already know the local internet providers, the building types, and the vendors your neighbors use.
We also keep it small on purpose: the same people who onboard you are the ones who answer the phone six months later. You will not re-explain your network to a new account manager every quarter.
How managed IT pricing works
We don't publish a rate card because two twenty-person businesses can have very different environments: one runs entirely in Microsoft 365 with laptops, the other has a server, a shop-floor network, and a legacy application that needs babysitting. What we do promise is that pricing is itemized per user and per device, quoted after the assessment, and explained line by line. There are no surprise hourly invoices for covered work, and hardware or project work is always quoted separately and approved before we start.
If you currently pay someone by the hour, bring the last twelve months of invoices to the assessment. The comparison is usually straightforward.
“Tremendously impressed! The hard drive on my desktop crashed. The folks at Power Up Boston were able to save all the non-replaceable software and transfer everything to a new machine seamlessly.”

Frequently asked questions
?What's the difference between managed IT and calling someone when something breaks?
Break-fix means you pay by the hour after a problem has already cost you downtime. Managed IT means we monitor and maintain your systems continuously for a fixed monthly fee, so most problems are caught and fixed before your staff notice, and the ones that do surface are covered without a separate bill. Our guide on break-fix vs. managed IT goes into the trade-offs.
?How small a business will you take on for managed IT?
We work with businesses from a handful of users up to several dozen. If you have three people and a Microsoft 365 tenant, a plan can be small and simple. If you only need occasional help, our computer repair and hourly services may fit better, and we will say so.
?Do you support Macs as well as Windows?
Yes. Many South Shore offices are mixed. We manage macOS and Windows workstations, iPhones and Android devices that access company email, and Windows Server or cloud back ends.
?Can you work with the software vendor for our practice-management or industry application?
That is a large part of the job. We handle the server, network, and workstation side and coordinate directly with the vendor's support team when an issue crosses into their product, so you are not stuck in the middle.
?What happens if there is a problem after hours?
Managed clients have an emergency line for genuine outages outside business hours. Monitoring alerts us to server and network failures automatically, so we are often already working on it.
?Do we have to sign a long contract?
We scope plans in writing with a clear term and a clear list of what is covered. The best way to get a straight answer for your situation is the free assessment; you will leave with a written scope and price before deciding anything.
?Do you help with cyber-insurance questionnaires and compliance like HIPAA, PCI, or the Massachusetts WISP rule?
Yes. Managed clients get documentation of MFA, patching, endpoint protection, and backups that answers most insurance questionnaires. For regulated businesses we build the additional controls and written policies under our compliance services.
