Chris Kolacz, Founder of Power Up Boston
Chris started Power Up Boston in Plymouth in 2009, fixing computers and running network cable for local businesses. No investors and no franchise playbook: one person who was good with technology and cared about doing right by his neighbors.
17+ years later he still does the on-site work. The company now provides managed IT, cybersecurity, security cameras, access control, structured cabling, and commercial AV from its office at 24 Samoset St, and Chris writes the guides on this site from that work.
What Chris Does
The person who shows up
Most of the businesses Power Up Boston works with have between five and seventy-five employees and nobody on staff whose job is the computers. Chris's role is to be that person for them: the free on-site assessment, the written scope, the onboarding, and the visit when something needs hands.
Answers the phone
Call the office and you reach the team that knows your network, not a ticket queue in another state. Same people every time.
Does the on-site work
Assessments, network closets, camera installs, cabling, and the problems that cannot be fixed from a desk. The office is on Samoset St, so the South Shore is a drive, not a scheduling event.
Starts with security
Every recommendation begins with keeping the business safe: MFA, endpoint protection, verified backups, and the written policies regulated clients need.
Explains it plainly
Findings in plain English, pricing itemized line by line, and a straight answer when a service is more than a business needs.
Background
From a bench in Plymouth to 68 communities
The services grew as clients asked for them. Cameras came from retail and restaurant customers who needed them, managed IT from offices tired of calling only after something broke, and cybersecurity, access control, and cabling from the same businesses as they grew. The philosophy did not change: show up, do excellent work, be honest about what you need, and pick up the phone when it rings.
Power Up Boston is not a franchise and not a reseller. It is a local IT and security team, and Chris is the reason it has stayed that way. Read more on the about page.
